Meridian Star newspaper 01 March 1952, pg. 7, Pioneer Resident of Meridian (MS) Dies-- Mrs. Maggie Hall Burwell, 77, wife of the late William L. Burwell of Rt. 5, died Friday (29 February 1952) at 8pm at St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Burwell, a long time resident of Meridian, was one of the most beloved women in this section. Her deeds of service and her ministry to others endeared her to a wide circle of friends. As far as possible she responded to every call for assistance and was happiest when she was serving those in need.
Surviving are two daughters, Mesdames W.G. Culpepper and O.V. Barber; two sons, R.W. and C.B. Burwell, Meridian, sister Mrs. R. B. Curry, Gatesville, Tex.; five granddaughters, Mesdames F.A. Glisson , Rt. 5, Meridian, Mrs. Cecil Jones, Shuqualak; Miss Margaret and Olive Barber and Miss Ann Burwell, all of Meridian; two grandsons, Vince Barber, San Antonio, Tex. and Carly Hugh Parker with the U.S. Army and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Webb Funeral Home Monday at 3 pm with the Dr. Frank Cross, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Burwell Cemetery on Rt. 5.
Pallbearers: Leland Chaney, W.C. Tillman, W.P. Mayerhoff, J.P. Tingle, J.H. Price, Elton Barnett, Marvin and Austin Culpepper.
Mrs. Burwell was a member of the Central Presbyterian church. The body will remain at Webb's.
