Hall/Hood Family Connections

Mary Ellen Kashing - Oct 22, 2006

My research has yielded information about Thursetta (Hood) Hall b. 1830 wife of Robert Young Hall b. 1831 in NC. Thursetta was the daughter of Raleigh Hood and Anna McKinney. The pattern of migration for the two families is very similar and reaches back to Burke County, NC with Raleigh's grandfather, John Hood in residence in 1789. The Goodspeed Biographical Memoirs of Northwestern Arkansas places Robert Hall and his sons Jesse and Young along with "Rolly"Hood as early settlers on Flint Creek. Robert Young Hall and Thursetta were married in approximately 1850, but I have been unable to locate a record. Can anyone help me with information you may have come across that might clarify the degree and time span with regard to the families' connections?Thank you Mary Ellen Kashing

Why am I showing Henrietta HOOD as Robert's wife in my database? Second marriage to Mary T. UNKNOWN. Could Thursetta really be HENRIETTA? Or vice versa? And could Mary T. be Mary THURSETTA HOOD?

Robert's brother Jesse married Elizabeth HOOD - said to be daughter of Alex HOOD and Unknown MCKINNEY. Usually my unlisted sources are off the internet which I don't consider "proof", but the names go into my "working" file.

I welcome corrections, preferably with sources mentioned.

Accompanying the NARA copy of Thursetta (Hood) Hall's 1896 application brought before the Dawes Commission is a Postal RegistryReceipt from Vinita I.T. made out to
Robert Young Hall. That document and the 1860 and 1870 census records listing her using variant spellings, including the 1880 record for Mary T., lead me to surmise that she was his only wife and that these names refer to the same person. She was born in
Greenville, SC as indicated in the 1860 census. I have noted the discrepancy in the 1870 and 1880 records, but the ages are consistent.

I will follow up your source indicating Elizabeth Hood is the daughter of Alex Hood and
unknown McKinney. Thank you for responding. Mary Ellen Kashing

Hi,
I had Robert Y. Hall's 1st wife as Henrietta Hood and 2nd as Thursetta unknown from internet files but could not prove Henrietta, so dropped her.

I have a feeling that someone read Thursetta as Henrietta on a bad copy of the census film. I just went back to check the 1850 census and found that ancestry.com's index has Henretta Hall, age 21, born in NC but looking at the film it has Thursetta Hall, age 21, born in NC.

In the 1850 Cherokee Co, NC census is Robert Hall, Jr., age 19, born in NC and Thursetta Hall, age 21, born in NC. They were married before June 1st, 1850, the date of the census and in NC.

The only Hood in Cherokee Co, NC in 1840 was John Hood, 111001-122001.
John and his wife age 30 to 40 and among others, 2 females age 10 to 15 (1825/1830) the right age for Thursetta.

John Hood, age 47, born in NC and his wife Louisa, age 45, born in NC, were in the 1850 Cherokee Co, NC census with 5 children, the oldest age 17, James M., age 17, born in TN; Elizabeth J., age 17, born in TN; Easter L., age 15, born in TN; William J., age 13, born in TN; Winney, age 8, born in NC.
Note: Remember Robert's brother Jesse married Elizabeth Hood.

I do not find Jesse Hall in the 1850 census anywhere.

J. M. Hall, 31, born in NC and Elizabeth Hall, age 28, born in SC were in the 1860 Benton Co, AR census with Waistellewery(male), age 9, born in NC; Parille (female), age 6, born in AR; Anny, age 4, born in AR; Joshua, age 1, born in AR.
Note: appears Jesse and Elizabeth were married after the 1850 census where she is in her father's household but before 1851 when their son was born in NC, so the marriage must have been in NC.

I do not find this John Hood anywhere in 1860.

I do not find Raleigh "Rolly" Hood anywhere in the census but there are 9 files on Raleigh "Rolly" Hood and Anna McKinney on ancestry.com but none puts him in Cherokee Co, NC or Benton Co, AR.

Does the NARA records list her a Hood and do the records list her parents as Raleigh Hood and Anna McKinney?
