Judge J. P. Hall's story says they were in Upshur Co, TX in 1867 before moving on to Smith, Cooke and Grayson counties.
I haven't found Joshua Quarles 1st marriage yet but I did find him in 1870 Wood Co, TX and 1880 Rains Co, TX with his 1st wife C. M. or M. C. and with first child Lizzie born about 1868 in TX. Would indicate married about 1867.
J. W. Quarles' 2d marriage to Mary E. Self 14 Aug 1881 in Rains Co, TX.
