Toxey Hall - Sep 30, 2012
Some time back, I said I would spend some time time looking into genealogical DNA testing. My learning curve is still steep, but the topic is not as mysterious to me as it was. I would like for us to conduct an informal survey on DNA testing services. I would be very grateful if cousins who have expertise in this subject would share their opinions as to which services they consider the most advisable. In particular, I think we are all interested on the opinions and experiences of people who have had DNA testing. Family Tree DNA has a Hall group, and subgroups (e.g. Squire John Hall) can be formed within that group for specific Hall lines. I am a DNA contributor to the National Geographic Genome project and to the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SGMF). Records from the Genome project are transferable to Family Tree DNA. SGMF merged with Ancestry.com on June 30, 2012, and their database will be added to that of AncestryDNA. SGMF contributors will still be able to access their records for the time being, but the committment is not well defined, and I recommend that this information be downloaded without delay. A member of this site is interested in verifying his descent from Rev Joshua Hall (1765-1852). This effort would be enhanced by comparison of his DNA woth that of a confirmed descendant of the said Joshua. I will attempt to compile (or locate) a comparison of the most attractive genealogical DNA services. Toxey

Hi Toxey,
Debbie Hall Daugherty - Oct 1, 2012
Hi Toxey,
I had my brother swab for me and utilized the Family Tree DNA group. Walter Hall (sadly deceased now) and I were a match via Family Tree DNA. Both Walter and I are/were descended from Rev. Joshua Hall.

I have my name in to be tested
Linda Cushing - Oct 9, 2012
I have my name in to be tested and Family Tree DNA group says they are swamped. I have been waiting three months for an email. My DNA will not verify a connection to Joshua Hall as I am female & I don't know any Hall males. But if you can't get Family Tree to send a kit , what do you do? Males I know who have taken the DNA test have discovered lots of info and connections to certain ancestors. It should be exciting.
