I need help!! I am trying to prove Moses Hall and Cynthia Patton are the parents of Joshua Rufus Hall. I submitted my papers to the DAR and now, find my links between this generation are not adequate. I had a copy of a family Bible page, photos of both Moses & Cynthia's tombstone in same cemetery as JR Hall. Also sent a page from the Cherokee Historical book. Moses did not leave a will. I am having a hard time finding any concrete document listing his children. Any one have any ideas where I should look next?
Thanks for helping,

Have you check in the DAR

Have you check in the DAR books to see if someone else established a link to Cynthia Patten's father through Joshua Rufus and Moses. I was told that if you find the connection then you could reference their research. I am surprised that they wouldn't accept what you did submit, I don't know what else they would want, especially the copy of the bible page The census didn't even show family members name at that time. Good luck!

Thanks.

Thanks. Shall work on it from that angle. Our local Genealogical library should have those books. Next week shall pursue that approach. That's what makes this hobby so challenging! Always somewhere else to look.!

Like June, I am a descendent of Joshua Rufus Hall and Harret Louise Barnes. There is a lot of circumstantial evidence out there but no birth certificate or will that definitively connects Moses Wilkerson Hall and Joshua Rufus Hall. II have a copy of one deed where Moses Hall was the witness for Joshua Rufus buying land but that isn't much I am afraid. It has also been hard gathering information on Harriet Barnes Hall as well. I would love any info you are willing to share. Thanks. Debbie Hall Daugherty

Hi Kellye,
I am Rae Hall Lefebvre's daughter and know the papers you are referring to.
However, my mother and her cousins were on the wrong "trail" when this
family genealogy was written in the late 1960's. Their information on Moses
"Manlius" Hall came from Mrs. T L Adams book,"Hall Family History" and the
book did not go beyond Moses Manlius Hall to list his descendants. Moses
Manlius Hall was not the father of Joshua Rufus Hall nor husband of Cynthia
Arminta Patton, as stated in their papers. Moses Wilkerson Hall was the true
father of Joshua Rufus Hall and husband of Cynthia Patton.
Moses Wilkerson Hall's parents were Joshua Hall and Sarah Sellers. Moses was
named after the husband of Sarah Sellers' sister, Rebecca Sellers - Moses
Wilkerson. Also when the remains of Moses, Cynthia, Joshua Rufus Hall and
his wife, Harriett Barnes were removed the Pleasent Grove Cemetery (due to
the TVA Cemetery Relocation Project) to Roger's Chapel Cemetery, the TVA has
him listed as M.W. Hall. I am fairly sure this came from the original
death/burial records.
If you wish to know more, please contact me.

After further research, I concur. Would love any other you can share with me
as to Moses' ancestry.

An update
June Jaquish - Feb 12, 2008
An update; Thanks to Debbie Hall Daughtery and several others who responded....
The DAR accepted our proof that Joshua Rufus Hall is the son of Moses and Cynthia Hall. Cynthia Hall is the daughter of Captain Robert Patton, who fought at Kings Mountain and other places. We had the will to prove that part ...just could not connect Joshua Rufus to Moses...absolutely!
The final overriding proof was the documents from the National Archives showing the TVA Records when all the graves were moved from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery in 1938 to Rogers Chapel. It was a challenging search! I learned so much about my ancestors that all the time was well spent.
If you are descendant of Cynthia Patton Hall, it should be easy for you, if DAR interests you.
My next goal is to go to North Carolina and see for myself some of this country! Next Spring!!!
