Hello, I am the one who took this photo. Very sad story to go with it. The Lamberts were given the Hall Farm after taking care of a Ms. Porter for years. She died a few years ago. When I viisited the homestead in 2007 they showed us this book that belong to Rev. Joshua Hall. It was starting to come a part a bit and was being handled nonchalantly. They also informed us they have a shed full of old documents but would not let anyone look at what was in the shed because it was too hot and dusty. YIKES. We called months later and offered to buy the book and have it professionally restored and then would donate to the college there where a loom resides that was a Hall's as well. That way the book would be in a climate controlled environment for our children and their children to come to enjoy. At that point they stated there was no such book and didn't know what we were talking about.........I hate to think of all those documents with other books possibly deteriorating in that shed.
Debbie, that is indeed the saddest genealogy story I've ever heard. Can anyone on the list think of alternatives before the shed burns down or the people die? Can you find out who their pastor is? Perhaps he would have some influence. Please - everybody share your thoughts on this. I'll do what I can to help, but do not know how to proceed.
Walter and Roberta Hall went with my husband and I and all four of us walked away in amazement. Ms. Porter went to Cowee Baptist and was close to the minister where Joshua and Sarah Hall are buried but don't know that the Lamberts are active in a church. They won't budge and I don't think there is anything we can do. By law, they are entitled to everything that was Ms. Porter's which means the Hall homestead and all the documents. Walter Hall is about the nicest person I have ever met and has been researching the Halls for a long, long time and they even know him, and they still refused.
